Different Civilian Awards In India: Highest Awards In India List
The civilian awards are given to recognized personalities in their respective field of expertise. These awards are presented to the deserving recipients by the President of India on Republic Day. The civilian awards were introduced in 1954.
For Padma Awards all persons regardless of race, occupation, position, or gender, are eligible. However, government servants, including doctors and scientists are not eligible for these awards even if they work with PSUs.
Every nomination submitted for the Padma Award undergoes review by the Padma Awards Committee which is constituted by the Prime Minister every year. The Padma Awards Committee is chaired by the Cabinet Secretary and includes the Home Secretary, Secretary to the President, and four to six distinguished individuals as members.
The committee submits its recommendations to the President and Prime Minister for their approval. Civilian Awards are categorized according to the degree of honour. The Civilian Award of India is divided into 4 types such as –
