The Kerala State Film Awards are the film awards for a motion picture made in Kerala. The awards started in 1969 by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala and since 1998 the awards have been bestowed by Kerala State Chalachitra Academy on behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs.
On Friday 21 July, Kerala Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian announced the winners of the 53rd Kerala State Film Awards. A jury headed by Bengali film director and screenwriter Goutam Ghose, known for works such as Padma Nadir Majhi, Kaalbela, and Moner Manush, selected the winners for this edition of the prestigious awards presented by the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy.
Out of 154 films submitted for consideration, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam clinched the Best Film award. Mahesh Narayanan was honored as Best Director for Ariyippu, while Mammootty earned the Best Actor title for Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, and Vincy Aloshious received the prestigious Best Actress title for the film Rekha.
